The Power of Poetry

The Past is Gone, Leave it

The Present is Now, Feel it

The Future is Ahead, Don’t Worry About it

The world is facing a deadly pandemic and all we can do is stay back at home while this gives us the time to be with our family but the impact this is creating mentally cannot be ignored.

With our work being gone completely online, it has been concluded that 1 in every 5 people is undergoing anxiety, depression and this is where the need for Mindfulness comes in.

Mindfulness is the simple practice of keeping our surroundings i.e. the outside world away for a while and focusing on our inside world i.e. our own self. In other words, Mindfulness is thinking and feeling our senses and thoughts instead of being fretted about what is going on around us.

It not only helps us keep ourselves mentally fit but also gives us the strength to beat the boredom this situation has brought.

Let me take you through some of the many mindfulness practices that you can involve in from just the comfort of your home-:

1. Follow RAIN:

R-Recognize your feeling

A-Accept your feeling,

I-Investigate your emotions

N-Non identify and Nurture

2. Be Grateful:

Practice gratitude because being grateful not only helps in relieving the clutter in the brain but also makes you feel good. Maintaining a Gratitude Journal is honestly the best way to declutter your negativity.

3. Meditation:

Listen to some light music and try relaxing and focusing on each and every part of your body, your breathing, or just the light music you are listening to. Ignore all the emotions that you go through. Allow them to be there but make yourself leave them behind without judgment.

4. Mindful Eating:

An important approach to achieve mindfulness is by using our senses. Yes, you can use your sense to feel the components of your meal. Focus on what you eat, feel every bite of it.

5. See yourself in the Mirror:

Whenever you feel sad, try expressing your feelings in front of a mirror. Look at it with compassion actually look at your own self in it with compassion. This will help you share your feelings and reflect some positive rays on you. It would definitely make you feel good.

These are some of the sundry practices available. By following these practices, we give our worrying and ruminating minds a break which is a must for every individual. Just giving a couple of minutes of your day to Mindfulness is in itself a great achievement.

“Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.”

- Jon Kabat-Zinn
